STIE Among SMRT’s Value Chain Partners for Kaizen Queen Bee Programme

STIE is one of the Value Chain Partners (VCPs) that participated in SMRT’s Queen Bee Kaizen Programme, a key Kaizen (continuous improvement) learning journey, among SMRT’s contractors. This initiative improves productivity for those involved and gives VCPs valuable opportunities to upskill their workers’ capabilities.

This programme was developed through a Memorandum of Understanding with SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), SMRT and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). As a Queen Bee of the local land transport industry, SMRT takes the lead in helping to uplift their partners by identifying skill gaps and teaching the value of Kaizen in their business operations.

Dr Richard Kwok, Deputy President of SMRT Trains, spoke of their success with Kaizen and their vision for Singapore, “At SMRT, we want to make a difference not only in our company but also in the transport industry so that everyone can improve in quality, productivity, safety, and reliability to better serve our commuters of Singapore.”

STIE has consistently recognised the value of Kaizen and pledges its commitment to the practice. Mr Goh Lik Kok, Executive Vice President of STIE, expressed this responsibility in the event for the Queen Bee Programme, “Many of us as engaged leaders need to drive the continuous culture of Kaizen. Collectively, you put all those small improvements into one with a set goal, and we can come up with the bigger plan, which is to transform business value.”

Mr Goh also highlighted the benefits the programme has extended to them as VCPs. Among them is tapping of SkillsFuture funding for the training. “I appreciate the grant, as it sustains the effort to spend and invest in the people, to engage them for the long run.”
